The Heraklion central market
For centuries, the Heraklion central market is a meeting point for the inhabitants of this lively port city of Crete: in the small old-fashioned shops, where the aromas of cinnamon, oregano and sage mix, people make small talk while deciding what they are going to prepare for lunch.
Everything is fresh and colorful; the shop owners praise their local products to the shoppers that try to choose the fish of the day; the clay jars of homemade cheese are waiting for those who will be inspired to serve it as a dessert, topped with pure honey; in front of a counter full of green beans, there are women exchanging recipes… The heraklion market is always full of life.
It is a place where you can see the layers of the history depicted in the architecture of the shops and in the marbled Venetian monuments: a blend of different eras defined by the vibrant energy of a market where people connect.
The photo shoot of Heraklion Market was made with the support of our friend Yiannis Economou owner of Galaxy Hotel.
