I recall that I didn’ t even feel like having lunch on that day…
It was the first time I had ever visited Ios and I was only there for work.
By the time I had finished with my meeting, it was already noon,
the sun was high in the sky and everything felt like melting, including myself.
I had decided to stay in my hotel room, turn on the air-conditioning and work.
But you do know the saying: ‘’Whenever somebody makes plans, God is laughing’’.
Christos called me, and he and Gelly were already at Drakos’ fish tavern in Mylopotas, with their friends Dimitris & Sophia who had ordered the plate that they love most: the famous Chryssa’s Giouvetsaki Thalassinon (seafood pasta).
In less than ten minutes I had arrived. I found my friends sitting by the sea; their table appeared like as if it was floating on the water.. The sea was like a mirror, reflecting thousands of rays that made us all wear sunglasses. We started drinking ouzo, and after the first glass I felt as if I was in the middle of a long- long holiday!!
Then, the giouvetsi was served: The odor of this unforgettable food is something I can’t describe.. Juicy seafood and barley-shaped pasta, combined with tomato sauce and local herbs: perfection.
I don’t know whether it was the magnificent food, or the ouzo, the sun or the presence of my friends, yet I soon found myself to be in a place where the sound of people talking, children playing at the nearby beach and the water touching the deck became one sweet whisper. My eyes start closing and I kept smiling without any reason…
It was the time for a siesta!
