I really don’t know why I love this picture so much….
It was taken during an afternoon walk, when Christos and I were exploring an abandoned garden – one of the so many that can be seen inside traditional island settlements.
This old carved wooden door has probably been lying there on its green mattress of flowers and humble wild plants for decades. It looks as if like the clovers and nettles are keeping this door company!
What the image of this photo brings to my mind, is the ancient pithoid jars that are often found lying on the bottom of the sea bed surrounded by sea weed and corals.
Doesn’t this make you want to imagine the times when impatient hands were knocking on that door, to enter a lively house full of children and joy?
While many houses of the traditional Aegean settlements have being restored and are coming back to life, I do think that images like these, where nature is taking over abandoned old walls, doors and yards will always be present.
And these sights create a really strong impression for me…
Closed doors with locks & padlocks & crossbars…
…imagination is always the Key
